Having given up his dairy farm to start his new hobby, Andrew made his first set of bagpipes in 1958. He always had full support from his wife Jean, who also started up in business manufacturing Kilts, bag covers, flashes etc. Since then, word of Andrews handcrafted pipes, and Jeans quality uniforms have spread to all corners of the globe.

As a result of African Blackwood being in short supply in the late 70's, Andrew's frustration led to new research seeking an alternative material.

He stumbled across polypenco, (which has a dense quality which was used for making police batons) and started to make pipe chanters with the new material, unaware he was about to revolutionize the Piping World.

Andrew invited the Macallister Bros into partnership to help him develop the War-mac Pipe Chanter. The Partnership was an instant a success, and also led to the birth of War-mac Bagpipes. John Macallister traveled to many countries of the world introducing the new War-mac Polypenco Pipe Chanters to many of the worlds leading pipers.

Following Andrews's death in 1980, his wife Jean continued the ever-growing business with the support of her highly skilled staff. The death of Jean in 1999 led to the business being sold outside the family to Mrs Kelso, who had worked alongside Andrew and Jean for many years.

In December 2005, Mrs Kelso decided upon early retirement and sold the business back into the Warnock family. Since then, the businesses have been relocated to a newly built, state of the art workshop just across the road from where Andrew and Jean lived in Cookstown, Northern Ireland.
